| Edwina
has to have been our luckiest find after Umenno. Searching
for several brood mares to commence our breeding program we
were very fortunate to discover Edwina"
As soon as she arrived in Scotland her gentle nature revealed
itself. Turned loose in the school she danced across the arena
and we were totally smitten!
We immediately saw her potential, her limbs were refined
and clean, her movement loose, supple and flowing and it was
quite clear that her paces were well above average.
Edwina was a very fast learner and after only several weeks
under saddle she was placed 2nd in the large Ridden Non Native
class at North Yorkshire show just missing her qualification
to Hoys followed by a second place at Perth Show.
She was consistently placed first and Champion inhand in
many County Show rings including Champion reserve at the Dabbs
Spring Show, but perhaps most notably, in 2006, Edwina won the
Kilconquar Castle Overall Supreme Champion at Fife Agricultural
Show with Amenno winning the hunter foal class.
In 2004 Edwina was scanned in foal at first covering to Umenno
and by the time she was 4 months pregnant after an episode
of colic it was decided to allow her to relax during her pregnancy.
In September of that year Edwina was Graded by KWPN inspectors
Ina Van Deurzen and Toinne Hoeffs and awarded the marks for
Ster status at the SSH Gradings, receiving a 9 for her walk,
8.5 for trot, 7 for canter and 7 for her conformation.
In 2005 Edwina delivered the most striking colt foal, "Amenno",
awarded a first premium at the Scottish Sports Horse gradings
and was the first ever coloured foal to stand Champion foal
in the hunter class at the Royal Highland Show. Amenno also
claimed first prize in the hunter foal class at Fife Show.
In 2006 delighted with the outcome of this mating, Edwina
was bred once again to Umenno and produced yet another outstanding
coloured colt, "Solaris Buenno", this time, homozygous.
Buenno is now one of our active stallions with exceptionally
high fertility rates on first insemination and has since produced
our next generation of coloured broodmares, Fechinna, Favorinna
and Fabianna.
2007 The Umenno x Edwina combination evidently seemed to
be working well so once again she was bred to Umenno and delivered
yet another outstanding coloured colt, this time reserved
in utero, "Chelanno" was sold to show producer Karen
Ledger, Isle Of Wight. He has since debuted his career under
saddle, placing 2nd at New Forrest Show in the CHAPS Open
NON Native HOYS class as a 4 year old. At the Sport Horse
Breeders (GB) National Championships at Addington he became
Champion Ridden Four Year Old Sport Horse and finished the
day Champion Reserve Overall out of the four, five and six
year olds in the Blue Chip Flat Ridden Sport Horse of the
Year 2011. Chelanno shows a very special aptitude for jumping
with above average quality to his movement.
2008 saw the arrival of a much awaited filly with not a hair
of white. Delanna was nonetheless exquisite, showing yet again
off the floor paces. This filly seen at just a few weeks old
was sold to yet another top class showing producer John Kawrl
Jackes in Aberdeenshire. Delanna was awarded a first premium
in both the eventing and dressage section at the BEF Futurity
evaluations and also gained a first premium at the Scottish
Sports Horse Gradings.
2009 brought the arrival of Edwina's fifth foal a second
daughter, full sibling to her brothers and sisters. Elanna
was the image of her dam, minimally marked an exceptional
character of gold like all her siblings. It was decided with
the introduction of Buenno as a breeding sire to let her go
to a new home where she is much loved and cared for by Avie
Mowat in the Shetland Isles purchased at just a few days old.
2010 saw the arrival of Solaris Felanno, again by Umenno.
Yet another quality colt, expressive with a great outlook
on life. A colt that has inherited all the strengths of his
parents. Edwina's quick and active action of the hocks and
knees and fabulous walk, coupled with Umenno's shoulder reach
and uphill canter. A beautiful colt with a big personality.
Felanno is likely to be the tallest of all his siblings. Felanno
claimed the supreme coloured Championship as a foal at Perth
Show. He has followed his success in the show ring with new
owner Anita Taylor in England shown inhand by daughter Kelly.
Edwina is currently in foal to "Amoureux" for 2012
Edking Hill (Ekstein x Samber)
Edwina is by the Dutch coloured sire Ed King Hill (Ekstein
x Samber) Sadly Edking Hill was put to sleep after tearing
a tendon at the age of twelve. He had already had a successful
career showjumping 1.30m with Wout-Jan van der Schans in Holland
and was competing successfully in dressage with Roel van Laar
Swets at the time, thus gaining the sport predicate. He also
gained Prestatie status through his progeny and has left behind
him two approved sons Everest Hill (AES) and Parade D (Old)
His bloodlines also carry on through Everij A (Edking Hill
x DE SAINT URUS D'OLYMPE X) a popular sire in Holland and
is the dam sire of the Approved NRPS stallion Haico. He has
also produced a number of ster and keur mares and successful
competition horses.
Ekstein (Zion x Joost)
Champion of the Stallion Performance Test and Champion 7-year-old
showjumper. Eksteins' most famous sons include the Olympic
competitor Joel, and the winner of the Spruce Meadows CSI****
$1,000,000 Grand Prix, found also in the damline of "Hickstead"
the Olympic Gold medalist Beijing 2008. Eksteins dam Zaniki
(1981) KWPN a Ster Pref Prestatie mare was full sister to
Approved Stallion & International Showjumper Palfrenier
and dam of numerous International Showjumpers inc. Ekstein,
Fury, Heartdancer, Joniki, & Lajos.
"Fabiola" (Samber x Katouchon)
Edking Hill's dam the Ster Preferent mare "Fabiola"
by Samber was also the dam of the ZfDp Approved stallion "Cool
Cracker S" by Concorde that has competed successfully
up to Prix St Georges level and "Perfect Daddy"
a full brother to Edking Hill who made it through to the second
rounds of the KWPN stallion selections and then went on to
compete successfully to Z level Dressage.
Samber
Samber achieved ZZ level in Show jumping and Grand Prix level
in dressage. Samber has also proven himself a remarkable sire
producing versatile offspring succeeding in all Olympic disciplines
and remains the only Approved coloured stallion with the K.W.P.N.
– at present.
Pericles xx
Pericles was an English bred Thoroughbred. He stood at stud
in the Netherlands from 1976 until his death in 1987. He was
one of very few Thoroughbreds like Lucky Boy to achieve Preferent
status. Pericles did some racing and competed in Open Jumpers
later in his career. His offspring made excellent sport horses
and proved themselves in the breeding shed as well. Pericles
was best known as being a dressage sire. He is also the maternal
grandsire of the legendary stallion Ulft. Not only was perciles
dam sire of the most famous coloured stallion to date "Samber"
but also when combined with the Nimmerdor son Glendale produced
the dam of "the world most famous dressage stallion "Moorland's
Totilas"
Zion 1981 KWPN (Joost x Lucky Boy)
Unfortunately Zion died at an early age. Zion has four approved
sons including Ekstein, Edison, Edwig and Zodiac (NRPS), despite
being used for only two breeding seasons before he died. Considering
the few progeny that Zion produced that actually made it into
the competition world, his 127 points on the Dutch showjumping
index is remarkable. Zion is yet another son of by the famous
Thoroughbred foundation sire Lucky Boy XX mentioned previously.
Joost (Consul x Kassander)
An influencial showjumping sire that plays a substantial
role in todays modern showjumpers frequently found in the
bloodlines of many approved stallions and international showjumpers
most famously found in the line breeding program of Stal Roelofs. The
preferent stallion Joost was a top progenitor of show jumpers
and was highly ranked on the index with a breeding value of
148. He had many international offspring including the approved
stallions Hay Guy, Palfrenier, Ommen, VIP, and Carrera, Attentz
B, Satchmo, Jongger II, and Germus R.
Dottore 1985 (Damenstolz x Rigoletto)
In the damline of Edwina we find the Westphalen approved
stallion, Dottore a son of the Hannoverian stallion Damenstolz
by (Damhirsch out of Cyklame) who has produced many great
dressage horses of today 7 licensed sons, and 12 states premium
